The New Face Of The Arctic Monkeys March 22, 2007

There’s not really much I can say about this one but it seems that the Arctic Monkeys have really tried to look a little bit different for this new album of theirs, ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’. Their new album isn’t out until April the 23rd, which is still over a month away from us, but the first single to be released from the album, is called Brianstorm, and is already being bludgeoned to death by most major radio stations.
Anyway, the point I wanted to make was that although this may not be my most anticipated album of the year (though it comes pretty high up on the list), I’m looking forward to hearing their next offering. Providing the album is actually any good, I will have a great deal of respect for this band because they’re doing what was done so much more frequently back in the days of the 60s and 70s, releasing albums with just about one year in between. I realise this is a failure of an argument, so I won’t try to make one, it’s just that I can get rather impatient when waiting for the release of a new album by my favourite bands. Some groups, of course, take their time in recording the new material and putting the album together, making it all the more important when it comes out. I just get so worked up when I hear that an album has been finished for months and the record companies make us wait about six months until the actual release date.

Still, I have no idea at all how things work in the music industry and am most likely just making myself sound very stupid. At the end of the day, though, the whole idea boils down to my desperation for a new Franz Ferdinand album, probably one of my top 3 favourite bands ever.
Back to the Arctic Monkeys, anyway, as they’ve revealed the rather strange cover artwork to accompany ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’. It has some kind of bizarre Arctic Monkeys logo in yellow, which looks like it could have been drawn by some GCSE Art student and the images inside the windows don’t have too much of an effect on the listener. That aside, Brianstorm is a fantastic new single with an equally different video to go with it, complete with female dancers - something you wouldn’t expect in one of the ‘Monkey’s videos.
Above, you can see a picture of the new Arctic Monkeys cover art and below is the video for Brianstorm. Now all we have to do is wait patiently for the 23rd of April. Here’s to a very productive band that just keeps on working.
B.
P.S. I’ve just remembered that they deserve even more respect for using the English spelling of “favourite” in their name. They’ve clearly not buckled to the pressure of Microsoft Word’s lousy attempts to change the spelling of the word in our writing.
